GQ Citizen of the year

Image
2017 Citizen of the year according to GQ magazine I often get asked questions throughout the day about my thoughts on the current political drama going on or some random issue at hand and I often wonder why do people want my opinions.  Is it because of my service to country?  My comedic answers at times?  Perhaps you are just fishing for outrage from me because I am a veteran and supposed to think a certain way.  Here is the thing, I am first and foremost me, my service in the army does not define who I am but helped mold me into the person I am today.   With that said let me explain why this does not bother me.  Do I know who our last few citizens of the year are?  No I do not.  It doesn't matter to me who GQ decides is the citizen of the year.  Its a magazine, it has no bearing on my life and I have my own "heroes" that embody what I consider heroism.  So when I say to those that have asked me about it "I don't give a s...

Random Thoughts

Image
Winter is coming Its been a few weeks since I sat down and wrote anything on here, life has been busy and I haven't felt the urge to write anything or be extremely social.  Definitely have not been all there, lots of things on my mind.  Things seem to be looking up though heading into my favorite yet most tough time of the year.  Its always a struggle heading into fall during the October and November months.  I am constantly reminded of friends of past that are no longer here with us and all I want to do is be outside and enjoy the cooler weather but am constantly lost in my own head.   The good news is I got some great friends that sometimes force me to get out and do things, not always things I want to do but in the end I usually am glad I did it over sitting at home in my own big head.  Today its a hockey day and I do want to do that i just wish I wasn't in such a awful slump right now.  Though playing hockey with good friends even if ...

My time with Irma

Image
My time with Hurricane Irma Its been a long couple weeks for everyone here in Orlando, friends have only recently as yesterday gotten power back and still have issues from the storm.  I have had friends lose everything due to flooding, countless yards to clean up and lots of just getting back to normal here.   I was one of the lucky ones even though I went to Clarksville to visit family during Irma I had no damage to my house and from what I can tell only lost power for a couple hours during the storm.  The trick to telling is putting an ice cube in a bowl to see how much it melts when you get back.  I still threw everything away minus a few condiments.  Mustard and ketchup will keep fine after getting a little warm.  It was kinda relaxing to just throw a bunch of stuff away and start over on my food.  I feel cluttered and almost annoyed when I have so much food that I think it will be wasted. Clarksville/Nashville was a fun time, I got t...

Challenge is on hold

I am putting the challenge on hold. With everything going on down here in Florida with hurricane Irma preparations I am going to put this challenge on hold for now.   I will pick this up again once everything is all clear again, I had some positive weight results dropping 8.7 lbs during the week and minus the lack of energy during my hockey game I felt great.  If i can get time I will try to blog during the next few prep days.  I apologize for not being regular with this right now but there are more pressing issues obviously.   If I do evacuate the Orlando area I will be vlogging that trip and what is going on so I will have a new video and internet to actually post it!  Thanks for taking time to read this over the last week and the posts prior to this.   Stay safe if you are in Florida, its not worth testing this storm if you have the ability to leave.  Houses and belongings can be replaced.  Plus who wouldn't like a little time ...

Day 5 | Frozen Paleo challenge

Image
Day 5 I am not sure what it is lately but people waking me up late at night is getting pretty old.  I was on the verge of deep sleep when a loud truck outside woke me up.  It almost becomes comical to me at this point. Now waking up the next day was not as easy, my body feels tired and just wants to rest in bed.  Yup I hit the snooze button a couple times to get an extra 30 minutes of sleep.  Perks of living alone with no children, I get to enjoy a little extra sleep like that.  The last time I did a paleo diet I did not count calories or macros and I had more energy.  I also ate a lot more I assume.  My physical level at that time was also greater than now, but man do I miss just grabbing a hunk of a rotisserie chicken from the fridge when I want some food!   Its also the start of the weekend I had a repeat meal today for lunch and dinner there is not much variety between beetnik available here.  I did cook up some bacon and to...

Day 4 | Frozen Paleo challenge

Image
Day 4 Today feels like a good day I woke up feeling pretty good (this may also be the coffee talking at this point) had a good breakfast and spent some time with the pooch.  I am excited about the day and to see how my body responds to a hockey game tonight with this diet going for a few days now.  I just hope I have the energy reserves to play like I want to.  I brought a couple of the caveman bars and a Lara bar with me today so I can snack on one before the game and get some extra juice.   Lunch was the first repeat of the meals I had the beef chili with sweet potatoes again.  After trying the others I am more pleased with this one than before.  It actually has some flavor and is edible!  still not great but I could eat it in a pinch.  I may have gone softer also because it was spicy today and I am far from upset about that just wasn't mentally prepared for it. Had a great end of the day feeling great mentally already and having ener...

Day 3 | Frozen Paleo challenge

Image
Day 3 Today is off to a great start, the larger breakfast was 100% the right idea.  I started the day with a bacon and egg muffin with half an avocado.  It has always been a challenge for me to eat a good breakfast without over eating or under eating.  As with everything this month it will be a trial and error effort to give myself the best chance to succeed. well the lunch was not so good again today. Same as before the box made it look like Gordon Ramsay and the cooked meal looked more like worst chef in America.  The cauliflower rice was extremely watery and the chicken was bland and the vegetables non existent.  I know I shouldn't expect much out of a frozen paleo meal but I don't expect to be 100% let down.  I can not see much of a future when the meals are of a dismal variety and even worse taste. There was a slight glimmer of hope though today I had to go to Costco for a office supply run and I came across some paleo friendly bars. ...
