GQ Citizen of the year

2017 Citizen of the year according to GQ magazine

I often get asked questions throughout the day about my thoughts on the current political drama going on or some random issue at hand and I often wonder why do people want my opinions.  Is it because of my service to country?  My comedic answers at times?  Perhaps you are just fishing for outrage from me because I am a veteran and supposed to think a certain way.  Here is the thing, I am first and foremost me, my service in the army does not define who I am but helped mold me into the person I am today.

With that said let me explain why this does not bother me.  Do I know who our last few citizens of the year are?  No I do not.  It doesn't matter to me who GQ decides is the citizen of the year.  Its a magazine, it has no bearing on my life and I have my own "heroes" that embody what I consider heroism.  So when I say to those that have asked me about it "I don't give a shit" and they wonder why I ask back do you even know who won it last year?  Not a single person has been able to tell me.

What it boils down to in my humble opinion is if you didn't care about it before why let it impact your day to day life.  I don't disagree with the message Kaepernick was protesting for, I'm not ignorant nor blind.  Was his delivery done in poor taste, also in MY opinion yes it was.  Will I go around being angry about it all day?  Hard no, I watch what I choose to watch and live my life according to how I want to.

That's just how I see it all.  Agree or disagree that's the beauty here, you can do so and I don't think any less of you for your opinion.
